Parent and Child Groups help establish the hierarchy and segmentation within your Community. Admins can decide where to add new Members, but there is some automation. Note that Members who are added to a Child Group will be automatically added to the Parent Group. However, Members who are added to a Parent Group will not be automatically added to the Child Groups. Each Parent Group can have up to 5 levels of Child subgroups.

CREATE NEW GROUPS
You can add new Groups to your Community from either the side Navigation bar or the Map Group Structure page.
FROM THE NAVIGATION BAR
Follow the steps below to add new Groups to your Community from the Navigation bar:
- Click the + icon next to Your Groups.
- Enter the Group Name.
- This will autofill the Group Email Address section. Note that unique email addresses will depend on the availability of the name in our database. If a name is already taken, consider adding your Community initials to the desired name.
- Enter the Group Description.
- Select a Parent Group if desired.
- Set Group Visibility.
- This determines if the Group will be seen as a Suggested Group, is public or private, or requires Membership in another Group before joining.
- Toggle Approve new members button on if desired.
- This determines if the Group will require Admins to approve all new Members, and is suggested for Group Visibility of Anyone.
- Click the Create button.
FROM THE MAPS - GROUP STRUCTURE PAGE
Follow the steps below to add new Groups to your Community from the Map Groups Structure page:
- Click the Community Menu.
- Select Map - Groups structure.
- Click the Add Group button.
- Enter the Group Name.
- This will autofill the Group Email Address section. Note that unique email addresses will depend on the availability of the name in our database. If a name is already taken, consider adding your Community initials to the desired name.
- Enter the Group Description.
- Select a Parent Group if desired.
- Set Group Visibility.

CHANGE PARENT GROUP TO CHILD
Follow the steps below to change an existing Group hierarchy. Note that Members will not be able to access the Community while the Group restructure is in progress.
- Navigate to the desired Group.
- Click the three dot icon.
- Select Settings.
- Select General.
- Click the Parent Group dropdown menu.
- Select the new parent Group.
There will be a confirmation message once a new Parent Group is selected indicating that Members will not be able to access the Community while the Group restructure is in progress.
- Click the Confirm button to make changes. Or click the Cancel button if now is not the right time to make changes.
- Click the Save Changes button.
MANAGE GROUP VISIBILITY
Admins manage how Members view and interact with a Group by adjusting the Group Visibility settings. These settings can be adjusted as needed, from a public Group that is suggested to all to a private Group that is invite only.
